Yeah, so the latest issue of The Hockey News arrived today. The headline? Baby Faced Bullies: So Cute, So Dangerous. And a big picture of Tiny!Briere looking twelve. I haven't actually read the article yet, because I have been busy trying to scan it in so you can see it with your own eyes!
While scanning and getting frustrated with scanning, I hopped over to THN.com to see if they just had a picture of it instead, but no, they still have last week's cover up. Sheesh. While I was there, I saw this little gem: NO VOTE NECESSARY, PHILADEPHIA FLYERS
SIGN FITZPATRICK. Um, what?
Looks like the -ookies may have spoken too soon about the crazy....

What on earth?
Okay, thanks to Teka for this one.
Click here to see the weirdest commercial ever.
I am worried for Briere in this commercial...he looks like he is lost in a bad part of town. And what is up with the dog? And why is he calling his shots like Vincent in The Color of Money? And really, he should never try to make a mean face, it just makes me laugh.
But it does get me pumped for the start of the season

Slow news week...
I got nothing guys, absolutely nothing!
A few weeks back, Adam Proteau of THN wrote a piece about the Flyers rebuilding during the offseason. He wrote "one presumes the Philadelphia Flyers have been pre-approved to hoist the Stanley Cup next spring."
Um, I don't recall anyone from the Flyers organization using the words "Stanley Cup", "playoffs" or even "contender". Every press conference I watched showed guarded words and cautious optimism about next season. Nobody was getting ahead of themselves.
Until le petit Briere spoke.
Let me digress here for one second. I watched the Hartnell, Smith and Briere press conferences. Hartnell was very articulate. Smith was very boring. Briere was very skittish. Of the three, if I were a GM, I would only want Hartnell talking to the press.
I think the press was a little harder on Briere since he is the "prized free agent acquisition". Some of the questions seemed a bit critical. And Briere's answers, and the faces his made when answering, were a little disheartening. He needs to polish up his skills in this area. But the worst part was the answer he gave to this question:
Q: As a player is there any concerns, questions as to how all these new faces are going to fit together?
Briere: “There are going to be a lot of new players next year. You never know how long it is going to take to mesh. We have a lot of good young players that are still going to have a lot of room for improvement. How it’s going to mesh I don’t know. What I expect from this team looking at our roster is to definitely make the playoffs. That is what I expect us to do at least get to.”
Oh no! He used the "p" word! And this was the question where he made the worst face and hesitated a lot when talking about the new players next year. I will try to upload the video later, but if you feel like watching it, you can look here...

Hating on Briere...special investigation

Now you all know I love le petit Briere (in a non-squee way). However, it is kinda fun to hate on him. When I saw this picture of him posted by Caps Chick, it made me laugh. A lot. And sparked much Briere hating with Jordi. But Jordi decided there was no way he would ever drive this car (even though it does match his outfit, which he is all about). So I decided to do some investigating, and I was able to find his real mode of transportation:

Putting the "petit" in le petit Briere
So I made my way back to the lovely state of New Jersey today, to catch another day of Flyers conditioning camp. And oh yeah, Daniel Briere was there too.
The first session ended at noon, and the second session didn't start until 2:30, so I had some time to kill. As I was leaving to go get some lunch, I noticed a small line at the bottom of the stairs. At first, I was thinking these crazy people thought they were going to be invited upstairs to the press conference. Then I realized they were waiting for le petit Briere to come down the stairs after the press conference. I am such a terrible stalker that I would never even know where to wait for my intended stalkee.
Anyhow, I decided to sit down and watch the press conference on TV, and wait to see if I could catch a glimpse of Briere on his way out. Here's as close as I got (remember, I am a terrible stalker and close proximity to hockey players causes severe anxiety):

Heather B, try not to pass out at the sight of Briere in a Flyers jersey.
I personally like this shot the best, as most of my pictures are always taken too late like this one:
So that is my first Briere sighting! Hate away, haters!

More Hockey in July...le petit Briere Press Conference Eve Edition
The local media has been all Flyered up this week. Hockey news has been the second story every day on CSN. Guys, they are showing hockey news five minutes into the broadcast...and it is not even hockey season! And the past two days, they have had "breaking news" on the noonday show to broadcast Hartnell and Smith's press conferences. Last year, you could find nary a Flyers score, let alone a Flyers story, and now they even yap about van Riemsdyks' week at conditioning camp on KYW news radio! Weird.
I suppose all of this is due to Homer and the moves he has made. Well tomorrow is the day a lot of people have been waiting for...le petit Briere's press conference. It will be held at the Voorhees Skate Zone. The very same Skate Zone where the little guys are having their camp this week. The very same Skate Zone that I will be at tomorrow watching rookie camp. Remember? So, yes I will be in the same building as le petit Briere. Unless of course, the Flyers organization reads this ahead of time and decides to move it to the Wachovia Center. That would be just my luck. No matter, I will be chilling at the Zone with the boys on a hot July day. That's good enough for me.

Thanks Marty!
From the Philadelphia Inquirer:
How cute! He was afraid we weren't going to call him! Aww!
About 10 teams inquired about him, and some offered a higher annual salary over a shorter term, Briere said.
"In the past few weeks, every time I was thinking about it, for some reason Philly always came up at the top of my list," the center said. "I don't know how to explain it. There is a lot going for Philly. . . . I was a little afraid the last few days [that] they would not call or be interested in me."
He credited goalie Martin Biron for selling him on the Flyers.
"I'm very happy for him," said Biron, who was Briere's roommate in Buffalo. "This is another piece that makes our whole team better. Danny is a great player. He makes everyone around him better. He will be a great fit."
