Like you care, but Five Reasons I Love the Flyers.

Yeah yeah, this one has been done to death this off season, and my list has already been posted over at A Clockwork Orange, but y'all can check it out here too.

Five Reasons I Love the Flyers

1. Being hated by 29 other fan bases

Declaring yourself a Flyers fan is roughly the equivalent of saying “I like eating raw puppy guts for breakfast.” Sure, Toronto hates Montreal, and Detroit hates Colorado, but EVERYONE hates the Flyers and their fans. It’s a great feeling to hear people say, “stay classy Philly” and know they’re talking about you. Yes, I have booed an injured player from the opposing team lying on the ice. Get up, you bitch, he didn’t hit you that hard!

2. Knowing for certain that your goalie is going to fuck things up

If you love the Flyers, this is inevitable. However, there’s a strange sort of comfort in knowing your goalie is going to fuck things up. Making it through a game without wanting to gouge your eyes out due to your goalie’s miscue is a rare and strange feeling. But you can rest assured that he will make up for it doubly during the next game.

3. Halloween sales

That’s right, if you want to pick up some Flyers’ themed gear, just check out Target during the month of October. I mean, you need a lot of orange and black striped socks to make it through the season. Some of the pairs will be lucky, some will not, so it’s best to pick up a few extras for when you have to stop wearing the unlucky ones.

4. Flyers bloggers

Since most Flyers fans allegedly can’t read or write, our blogging community is relatively small compared to other fan bases. Many blogs have come and gone, but the ones that remain are fantastic and funny.

5. Penguins games

Nuff said, right?

Holy Training Camp Guide, Batman.

Flyers announced their training camp schedule today. That's not unusual. What is unusual is the lovely training camp guide that accompanies it. Wow. I've never seen anything so comprehensive for training camp. And I guess the theme for this year is "Relentless"? Hey, it beats Hungry for More.

A few random grumblings...

*NHL.com, your new interface sucks. It looks pretty, but damn if I can figure out where the hell to find stuff.

*Brian Engblom cut his hair. I'm not sure how I feel about this yet. It looks better, yet weirder somehow. Thanks to Puck Daddy for the pic. I was totally gonna screen cap it myself, but damn if I'm too lazy.

*How many fantasy hockey teams is too many? Why do all my fantasy hockey teams have crap goalies?

*Why haven't I seen any of these "Is this the year?" commercials that everyone is yapping about?

*Why does Ed Snider look more and more like George Hamilton in "Love at First Bite"? Anyone who has seen the commemorative ticket from the Phantoms/Flyers game knows what I'm talking about.

*I hope that Saturday's game will not be overshadowed by political bullshit.

*Why don't I know any of the players numbers for this season? I got some studying to do!

*If Pat Maroon is gonna be with the Phantoms all year, I may have to make a few trips over to the Spectrum. Sign me up now for the jersey auctions.

I guess that's all for now. See you Saturday!

What on earth?

Okay, thanks to Teka for this one.

Click here to see the weirdest commercial ever.

I am worried for Briere in this commercial...he looks like he is lost in a bad part of town. And what is up with the dog? And why is he calling his shots like Vincent in The Color of Money? And really, he should never try to make a mean face, it just makes me laugh.

But it does get me pumped for the start of the season

Fakeout!

I wish I could say this was from training camp, but alas, it is from the July rookie camp. Work is preventing me from getting to much preseason action. Grrrrrrrrr!

Cmon September!!!

Well, September is almost here. And after September comes good old October. Ladies and gentleman, the season is upon us!

Okay, okay, I know I am getting ahead of myself here. I can't help it. Rookie camp starts in one week, training camp the week after that, and then lame ass preseason games. I shouldn't make fun of preseason games, since last year's first preseason game brought tears of joy to my eyes (I really missed hockey).

Opening night is in 33 days. Can that be right? So close I can almost taste it.

Crickets and mums

Well, the crickets in my yard have started their incessant/annoying chirping. They are so loud that it sometimes sounds like they are in the house. And sometimes, they actually are!

Yesterday, on my way in to work, I saw the mums that we sell every year. At this time of year. Mid to late Auguust.

The crickets and the mums are a sure sign that summer is winding down and fall is fast approaching.

In 29 days, I can watch the Flyers play the Devils in preseason action. In 29 days, I can buy single game tickets. In 24 days I can watch the rookies at another training camp. In 28 days I can watch the big boys take the ice for camp.

I've never been so happy to hear those crickets and see those mums!
